Kenting Travel – The ways to go to Kenting

Kenting is the most popular place to have water activities in Summer. You can drive a car, ride a scooter, or walk to Kenting. In addition, you can also take a bus or shared taxi to Kenitng. People has to go to Kaohsiung train station, Taiwan High Speed Rail Zuoying station, or Kaohsiung International Airport to take the bus or shared taxi. Moreover, you can also rent a car when you arrived in Taiwan High Speed Rail Zuoying station. 

Driving a Car to Kenitng

• Taking the Freeway 3 and heading south → Leaving Freeway 3 at Nanzhou南州交流道 （Freeway mileage signs 424km）→ Following the signs to Kenitng National Park
• Taking the Freeway 1 and heading south → Leaving Freeway 1 （Freeway mileage signs 370km）and connecting to Highway 88 → Leaving Highway 88 and connecting to Freeway 3 and heading south → Leaving Freeway 3 at Nanzhou南州交流道 （Freeway mileage signs 424km）→ Following the signs to Kenitng National Park

Taking Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR)and then taking the Kenting Express Line Bus

Taking the train of THSR to Zuoying Station → taking the Kenting Express Line Bus

• Kenting Express Line 9189 Bus is operated between THSR Zuoying Station and Kenting bus station. There are 8 stops in the line（THSR Zuoying Station左營、Dapeng Bay大鵬灣、Fangliao Station枋寮火車站、Checheng車城、Nanbaoli南保力、Hengchung Bus Station恆春轉運站、Nanwan南灣、Xiaowan / Kenting 小灣 / 墾丁）. It takes 2 hours from THSR Zuoying Station to Xiaowan / Kenting.
• Price of the bus ticket：Adult single trip（THSR Zuoying Station to Xiaowan / Kenting）401NT，A special price for the round trip is 600NT. But you have to buy the round trip ticket by cash at the Kenting Express Line counter outside the THSR Zuoying Station exit 2. You also can buy the ticket when you get on the bus. They accept cash, EasyCard, and iPass on the bus.
• Kenting Express Line Join Ticket with THSR： If you plan to take the THSR to Zuoying Station and then take the Kenting Express Line Bus, I recommend you to buy the join ticket. The package includes a THSR round trip ticket, a Kenting Express Line Bus round trip ticket, and a one day pass of bus in Kenting area.
  • Price of the package：It depends on which station do you take THSR. If you take from Nangang Station, the price is 2840NT. If you take from Taipei Station, the price is 2780NT. If you take from Banqiao Station, the price is 2740NT. If you take from Taoyuan Station, the price is 2540NT. If you take from Hsinchu Station, the price is 2350NT. If you take from Miaoli Station, the price is 2140NT. If you take from Taichung Station, the price is 1730NT. If you take from Changhua Station, the price is 1550NT. If you take from Yunlin Station, the price is 1390NT. If you take from Chiayi Station, the price is 1160NT. If you take from Tainan Station, the price is 760NT.
  • Purchasing place：It only be sold by the ibon machine in 7-11 stores (There is no ibon machine in the 7-11 stores in all THSR stations). After paying, you will get 2 vouchers, one for THSR and another for the bus. You have to go to any THSR station to reserve your seat and collect your THSR ticket within 28 days. When you arrived in THSR Zuoying Station, you have to go to the Kenting Express Line counter and present your voucher to get the bus ticket.
  • The Kenting Express Line Bus ticket is valid for 3 days and the THSR ticket is valid for 4 days.If you want to stay in Kenting more than 2 nights, you shouldn’t buy the package.

The timetable of the Kenting Express Line 9189 

• From THSR Zuoying Station：The first bus is 8：30 AM. The last one is 7：10 PM. The bus comes in every 15 minutes or 30 minutes. Please check the timetable by the link( Chinese Only).
• From Xiaowan / Kenting：The first bus is 8：00 AM. The last one is 7：10 PM. The bus comes in every 15 minutes or 30 minutes. Please check the timetable by the link( Chinese Only).

Taking Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR)and then rent a car

There are many car rental companies in THSR  Zuoying station. You can find the counters of Avis, Car Plus, and 和運租車 in the second floor of Zuoying station. There are 3 more companies outside of Zuoying station, 小馬租車與IWS艾維士租車, and 直航租車. Those 3 companies has cheaper rates, but maybe English is not work for them.

Taking a train to Kenting

Acutally, there is no train directly to Kenting. You have to take a train to Kaohsiung train station or Fangliao train station and then take a bus to Kenting. It’s better to take a train to Kaohsiung train station because you have more options to take to Kenting. You can take 9117 bus, 9188 bus, or shared taxi. If you go to Fangliao train station, you can only choose 9117 bus or 9188 bus.

Taking a bus to Kenting

If you are in a city which is in the north of Kaohsiung, you just find an intercity bus to go to Kaohsiung train station. Then take the 9117 bus or 9188 bus to Kenting. After you arrived in Kaohsiung train station, you have to find the bus station 中山東路. It is in front of OLD Kaohsiung train station and next to 康橋大飯店Kindness Hotel.

• • • 「9117 Bus Kaohsiung Train Station – Kenting」It takes 3 hours from Kaohsiung to Kenting. You can check the timetable by the link, but it is Chinese version only. Single trip ticket for an adult costs 352 NT. You can get 10% discount if you buy round trip ticket. You can get 20% discount if you use EasyCard or iPass to pay. The first bus form Kaohsiung Train Station is 4:15 AM. The last bus form Kaohsiung Train Station is 10:30 PM. The first bus form Kenting is 4 AM. The last bus form Kenting is 11:15 PM.

• • 「9188 Bus THSR Zuoying Station – 88 – Oluanpi」It takes 2.5 hours from Zuoying station to Oluanpi. You can check the timetable by the link, but it is Chinese version only. The first bus form THSR Zuoying Station is 8:45 AM. and the last bus is 9:45 PM. Single trip ticket for an adult costs 382 NT. You can get 10% discount if you buy round trip ticket. You can get 20% discount if you use EasyCard or iPass to pay.
    It takes 2 hours from Kaohsiung Train Station to Oluanpi. The first bus form Kaohsiung Train Station is 6 AM. and the last bus is 10 PM. Single trip ticket for an adult costs 362 NT. You can get 10% discount if you buy round trip ticket. You can get 20% discount if you use EasyCard or iPass to pay.
    The first bus form Oluanpi is 5:40 AM. and the last bus is 9:30 PM.

Taking a Shared Taxi

You can find a shared taxi at THSR Zuoying Station, Kaohsiung Train Station, and Kaohsiung international airport. The taxi drivers are usually waiting either in the lobby or at the bus station of those places.They will ask every person who looks like a traveler. They will collect 4 to 6 customers and then go to Kenting. The price is 300NT to 350NT per person from Kaohsiung Train Station to Kenting, 350NT to 400NT per person from THSR Zuoying Station to Kenting, and 300NT to 350NT per person from Kaohsiung international airport to Kenting. The shared taxi driver usually drive super crazily fast, it takes 1 to 1.5 hours to Kenting. It seems faster, but you have to wait until they collect 4 to 6 persons. Sometimes, it takes so long.

Taking a airplane

• From Kaohsiung international airport to Kenitng

  After taking a airplane to Kaohsiung international airport, you can take a shared taxi, 918 Bus Kaohsiung international airport Express Line, or 9117 Bus Kaohsiung Train Station – Kenting.

  1. A shared taxi costs 300NT to 350NT per person. It is a half hour to 1 hour faster than 918 Bus, but you have to wait until the driver collect 4 to 6 customers. So sometimes a shared taxi will not save time.
  2.「918 Bus Kaohsiung international airport Express Line」takes 2.5 hours from Kaohsiung international airport to Kenting. The bus ticket for an adult and single trip is 418 NT. You get 10% discount if you buy the round trip ticket. You get 20% discount if you use EasyCard or iPass to pay. The first bus from Kaohsiung international airport is 10:10 AM., and the last bus is 7:50 PM. The bus will come every hour. The first bus from Kenting is 8:10 AM. and the last bus is 7:10 PM.   3.「9117 Bus Kaohsiung Train Station – Kenting」It takes 3 hours from Kaohsiung international airport to Kenting. You can check the timetable by the link, but it is Chinese version only. Single trip ticket for an adult costs 317 NT. You can get 10% discount if you buy round trip ticket. You can get 20% discount if you use EasyCard or iPass to pay. The first bus form Kaohsiung Train Station is 4:15 AM. The last bus form Kaohsiung Train Station is 10:30 PM. The first bus form Kenting is 4 AM. The last bus form Kenting is 11:15 PM.

• Hengchun Airport

There is an airport in Chengchun and it takes no more a half hour from Hengchun to Kenitng. There is a company which runs the flight from Taipei to Hengchun. BUT actually the flight is canceled everyday. So it is not an option to take a flight to Hengchun.
